Facebook is taking over from YouTube

Whilst YouTube has long been the kingpin of online video space, social media empires such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest have jumped on the bandwagon and are now taking over.

Social Bakers, a social media analysis company, conducted a survey of more than 180,000 Facebook video posts across 20,000 Facebook pages owned by different brands, media companies, celebrities and entertainment companies. Their findings were extremely surprising.

In January 2014, top brands posted nearly 100,000 videos on YouTube. By December 2014 this figure had dropped to 58,000. By the same token, in January 2014 only 40,000 videos were posted on Facebook by leading brands. This figure had almost doubled to approximately 78,000 videos by December 2014!

On average, more than 50% of the people who visit Facebook everyday watch at least one video per a day, and in just one year, the number of video posts per person has increased by 75% globally, a fact that hasn’t gone unnoticed by savvy businesses.

Businesses are not only increasingly using videos to market their products or services, but also for making “About Us Videos”, Video Testimonials and Virtual Tours on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Google Plus, and their websites.

With more people watching videos than ever (according to Google, an increase of 300% between 2009 and 2014), promotional business videos are becoming an essential marketing tool for any smart business.
